Shopping for a new laptop, as a person with little to zero tech knowledge, can feel like deciphering a text message from a friend na na-stuck sa Jejemon era, especially when it comes to CPU names. Core i7-14700HX, Core i5-13420H? Anong ibig sabihin ng mga yan and why should you care?
Pero wag mabahala! Decoding these numbers and letters are a lot less complicated than explaining your situationship (char!). Let me help you make sense of the jargon para makapili ka ng tamang processor for your needs with confidence~
But since most of our laptops use Intel processors and have less complicated naming schemes than AMD, Let’s begin with Intel with “Intel® Core™ i7 14700HX” as our example:
Intel Core signifies the branding and product line.
I7 is the brand modifier, mas mataas ang number mas maganda ang chipset.
14 or the number after the brand modifier is the generation indicator.
Higher SKU represents a more powerful processor.
May 6 na SKU suffixes ang Intel Mobile CPUs, starting from most powerful, we have:
HX – Extreme Performance. Pang desktop-class ang performance with higher core counts and power.
HK – High Performance, Unlocked. Almost the same performance sa H pero pwedeng i-overclock for better performance.
H – High Performance. Designed for high-performance laptops, madalas ginagamit sa gaming and workstation machines.
P- Performance Thin and Light. Designed for premium thin and light laptops.
U – Ultra Low Power. Design for small and thin laptops na priority ang energy efficiency (longer battery life) pero mas mababa performance nito compared sa H
Y – Extremely Low Power. As the name suggest, ito yung pinaka mahinang chipset.
Intel® Core™ Ultra: Intel’s Newest Processors for AI!
Recently, naglabas din ang Intel ng bagong processor family designed for AI related tasks which is the Intel® Core™ Ultra. Let’s use Core Ultra 7 155H as our example:
Of course, “Core Ultra” is the branding, “5 “ denotes the performance tier which is also the brand modifier. “15” represents the generation number, 5 denotes the Numeric SKU, and finally H para sa suffix. Parehas lang din ang Suffixes na meron sa Core Ultra processors which is the H, HX, U, at P. Nawala lang dito ang Y at HX.
That’s it for Intel Mobile CPU’s! For AMD mobile CPU’s before Ryzen 7000 series, halos pareho lang ang naming scheme neto sa Intel- basic and uncomplicated, until they decided to change it sa kanilang Ryzen 7000 series processors. It got so complex that it deserves a different entry. Since we’re keeping things beginner friendly here I’m going to save it for our next blog!
